Eurus Energy Group has been engaged in the renewable energy generation business worldwide for more than 30 years since it started its wind power generation business in the United States in 1987.

Wind power generation is a project that requires a long-term perspective, from site surveys and wind conditions surveys to construction, maintenance, inspection, and operating and management. We are a company that consistently engages in the three phases of development, construction, and operation of power plants, and have two aspects: developers and power generators.The reason why this business model is possible globally is the backbone of a joint venture between Toyota Tsusho, a general trading company, and Tokyo Electric Power CompanyHoldings.Toyota Tsusho with their worldwide network, and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdingswith their knowhow in power plant construction and operation technologies,have made use of their respective strengths to guide our projects to success.

Currently, weoperates in 14countries, mainly in the U.S.,Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions. In recent years, we have expanded our portfolio to include not only the northern hemisphere but also the southern hemisphere. By leveraging our experience in leading regions, we are aggressively expanding our business into new areas by anticipating trends.The decentralized ownership of power generation facilities across the globe also mitigates the risks of natural environments, such as climate change, and country risks, such as changes in energy policies. We are working to stabilize management by diversifying business risks.

History

Contributing to the spread and expansion of renewable energy from the northern to the southern hemisphere

Eurus Energy Group's wind power generation business began in1987 in California, U.S.A. Subsequently, with the heightened interest in global warming as a tailwind, we expanded our business area from the United Kingdom in 1993 to Europe, including Italy and Spain. In 1999, we became the first company to begin operations in Japan, and in 2010 we entered Australia and Uruguay of South America. In 2019, we began operations in Egypt, the African continent.

In 2008, we entered the solar power generation business, which has high potential as a clean energy company. We startedoperations in South Korea, the United States, Japan, and Chile in South America, we plan to start operations at a hybrid renewable power plant in Australia that combines wind, solar, and battery powerin 2020.

In the past, countries that did not havefossil fuels such as coal and oil as resources and had low energy self-sufficiency had to relyon other countries for resources for power generation or purchasehigh levels of electricity, making them unstable. These countries are economically and physically able to produce and supply power in their own countries using different resources, such as wind and solar.We take pride in helping to revitalize depopulated regions, supply energy to various countries and regions, and develop industries through a number of development projects.

We are currently developing wind and solar projects in 14countries in four regions.

The wind power generation business, launched in California, USA, with a capacity of 50MW, has grown to2,780MW worldwide as of January 2020.With the addition of solar power generation, the total power generation capacity is 1270MW in Asia Pacific including Japan, 570MW in the US, 1020MW in Europe, 260MW in Africa, totaling 3120MW. There are 98 power plants in operation and 5 projects under construction.

In Japan, we have 41 power generation facilities in 16 prefectures from Hokkaido to Kagoshima. Of these, 32 are wind power plants, with a total power generation of 790MW, which is the largest share in Japan.

Wind power generation is a business that requires stable and safe operation for at least 20 years from the start of power generation. It is not uncommon for people in local municipalities that have installed power plants to have relationships with each other for more than 30 years from the development stage. In addition to taking responsibility for environmental conservation, we aim to be a project that is loved by residents.

For example, in Japan, we have stationed staff in each power plant area to exchange views with local residents. In particular, for elementary and junior high school students who will be responsible for the future, we hold on-site classes and site tours to deepen their understanding of wind power generation systems and the social contribution of renewable energy businesses. It is our encouragement to receive letters from participating students saying, "When I grow up, I want to work in renewable energy."We also invite local elementary school students to a windmill tour overseas, and invite local owners to a party that also serves as a business briefing. Through these and other activities, we are deepening our relationship with the local community and buildinga friendly relationship with the local community.

The accumulation of trust based on this approach along with the region has led to100projects in 14countries.

Explore the possibility of renewable energy

Our goal by 2030 is to increase domesticpower generation to 3,000MW, which is about three times that of the present, and overseas power generation to 3,000MW, bringing the total to 6 million kW. We consider entering the offshore wind power generation business, where expectations are rising in Japan, which is surrounded by the ocean. We will constantly strive to explore new possibilities for renewable energy.

However, our goal is not to compete for No. 1 market share. Our goal is to be a leading company with high-quality projects. The know-how that we have cultivated over 30 years makes this possible, and it is a major advantage that supports our business.

We are already looking at the next step as well. That is "To sell electricity in different forms."

We are currently manufacturing electrical and delivering it to our customers through power companies or in the form of retail sales. This operation involves selling electricity as electricity. However, this business model could lead to competition for discount electrical sales. Therefore, we are considering the model of "selling electricity in other forms rather than selling it as electricity." For example, excess power can be used to create hydrogen, or electricity can be used to run a computer to provide computational power. It is possible to use the Internet to provide goods and services including electricity charges without transmission lines.

Beyond that, "create demand." In other words, we believe that it is possible to use the electricity we produce to launch other businesses.

For example, we set up several wind turbines in areas where the power grid is not complete, attach storage batteries, and stably supply power to the community to decentralize the power supply.Even if it is difficult for a large-scale thermal power plant, it has the flexibility to vary its scale to match the amount of demand required by wind and solar power. It will be possible to create remote cities as new demand
and attract people and factories. Collaboration with other industries may also be realized.

We want to be a company that can respond swiftly to the presences of the times, social, and the operation environment, and can constantly and flexibly change. That is the shape of the company we are aiming for.

Leading toward the realization of a "sustainable society" by considering the future of the earth

With the arrival of 5G era of next-generation communications, new social infrastructures such as autonomous driving and remote operation support have become the reality. The spread of IoT is expected to accelerate in the future. In the background of convenient living in the near future, enormous amounts of data are exchanged through networks, and "electricity" is essential to support them.

At the same time, it is inevitable that a clean energy society that does not depend on fossil fuels will come toward the realization of a “sustainable society”. The concept of a smart city that offers all forms of electricity with renewable energy has already attracted attention around the world for its efforts to develop next-generation communities that coexist in harmony with the environment.

Japan needs to accelerate its efforts to realize this concept in the future. As a leading company in clean energy, the Eurus Energy Group intends to lead Japan's "Sustainable Society" and smart city concept.
