Eurus Energy Begins Construction of Eurus Shiranuka Battery Park
Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation (“Eurus Energy”) announced today that the construction of the grid-connected battery energy storage system, Eurus Shiranuka Battery Park (rated output: 30 MW; battery capacity: 143.043 MWh) in Shiranuka Town, Shiranuka District, Hokkaido, started on March 30, 2026.
As the world moves toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, renewable energy continues to expand as a primary source of electricity. However, the instability of the supply-demand balance caused by fluctuations in output from wind and solar power, which are affected by seasonal and weather conditions, remains an issue. To address these fluctuations, the need for grid-connected battery energy storage systems is increasing.
The Eurus Energy Group is working on the battery energy storage business to popularize renewable energy and stabilize power systems, and so far, it has developed four battery energy storage systems in Japan and two overseas (including projects under construction). Eurus Energy is also utilizing its own VPP platform, ReEra, to optimize operations of battery energy storage systems through multi-use control.
This battery energy storage system has been selected by Japan’s Agency for Natural Resources and Energy for its FY2024 subsidy for promoting grid-connected battery energy storage. It is Eurus Energy Group’s fifth battery energy storage system in Japan and the second in Hokkaido. The project is composed of lithium-ion batteries with a rated output of 30 MW and a battery capacity of 143.043 MWh, and commercial operation is scheduled to begin in December 2028. After operation begins, Eurus Energy plans to utilize ReEra to control and operate the battery energy storage system.
Based on our corporate philosophy of “Helping to preserve the global environment by disseminating and expanding clean energy technologies,” the Eurus Energy Group will continue to work on further expansion of wind power and solar power generation, as well as strive to ensure the stable supply of electricity through utilizing grid-connected battery energy storage systems and other technologies, and contribute to global environmental conservation and the creation of a sustainable society.Outline of the Project
