December 18, 2003 - Bid on the 2nd round of a British offshore successful
Eurus Energy Europe, working in a three-company consortium with Scottish Power, a British utility, and Elsam, a Danish utility, submitted a bid for the second round of a British offshore wind power development and was awarded rights to develop a 500MW offshore wind farm by the Crown Estate, a British government agency that manages various forms of real estate for the royal family.

This offshore wind farm will be constructed in the Irish Sea, 13km west of Duddon Sands, and will consist of approximately 100 wind power generators with a total capacity of approximately 500MW. Development will begin with environmental assessments in 2004, and power operation is scheduled to begin by the end of 2008.

The first round was launched in 2002. For the second round, which will be implemented under the direction of the UK's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the target is to construct offshore wind power facilities capable of producing 6GW of electric power by 2010. With the completion of this project, 15% of the UK's total electric power consumption will be supplied by renewable energy sources.

January 14, 2003 - Construction begins on the Kihoku Wind Farm in the town of Kihoku in Kagoshima Prefecture
On January 14, 2003, construction began on the Kihoku Wind Farm, a facility composed of sixteen 1.3MW turbines (total capacity of 20.8MW) and located in the town of Kihoku in Kagoshima Prefecture. Construction is scheduled to be completed in February 2004.

With the ability to produce enough power for approximately 12,000 ordinary households, this will be the largest wind power generation facility in Kyushu and will sell power to Kyushu Electric Power over a period of 15 years. Compared to a coal-fired power plant of the same scale, this wind farm will, over a year's time, save the equivalent of approximately 9 million liters of crude oil and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 37,000 tons. It is, therefore, expected to make a significant contribution to efforts to fight global warming.
